SUMMARY:Threat Hunting / Digital Forensics
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:\nThis course provides a hands-on first look at some of the tools\, techniques\, and procedures used for network based forensics and threat hunting. Attacks by basic to advanced threat actors will leave artifacts that can be detected. The malware they use must communicate somehow over the network for Command and Control (C2) and data exfiltration. We will study collectinging and correlating current and historic pcap-based network data with host and network generated logs to create a profile of an attack for post-incident investigations and reporting or proactive threat hunting. \nOpen source tools include: Security Onion 2.0 [Hunt\, Kibana\, Cyber Chef\,  Network Miner\, etc…] \n \nNOTE: This class will be broadcast live via WebEx – attendees should expect to login in to the class and participate at the times scheduled. \nPrerequisite:  Basic understanding of Linux operating system. \n  \n\nAbout the Instructor\nMike Masino has been an Information Technology instructor at Madison Area Technical College since 2004. SUMMARY:Introduction to Cloud Native Engineering with Open-Source Tools
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:\nThis course is designed to introduce students to modern software development\, particularly focused on microservices and Cloud Native engineering. Students will start by developing their basic experience with Linux into a more complete understanding of how commands interact with each other and how Linux interacts with a network. This includes the essential components of security and networking for developers leveraging Linux environments. We introduce the concept of version control through git and its critical role in software development. The class then focuses on combining the commands learned earlier into complete scripts that achieve specific purposes. Finally\, we cover containers\, containerized processes\, and container orchestration. Students will be tested on their new container proficiency by building\, testing\, and running a simple microservice using Docker containers. \nThe class will meet virtually every Tuesday and Thursday from February 23 to March 18 via Zoom. SUMMARY:IoT Educators Academy: IoT Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:IoT Fundamentals is the first course in the IoT Educators Academy.  It is intended to introduce instructors to the concepts of IoT\, the Internet of Things\, through a series of hands-on projects built around Arduino microcontrollers\, an array of electronic components\, sensors\, and actuators\, and computer programming.  This course is designed to help instructors gain an understanding and proficiency in the technologies centered around the Internet of Things\, and how to teach these concepts to high school and college students.  There is no prior knowledge of electronics or computer programming required for this course. \nThe class will meet virtually each Friday in November (6th\, 13th\, 20th\, 27th) from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm CST via Zoom. The class will be delivered virtually through Canvas. Students will be asked to complete 13 Arduino projects\, five of which will be completed virtually with the group on each Friday. The remaining seven projects are to be completed during the week and before the following Friday. Additionally\, the students will complete the review questions and quizzes after each project. \nParticipants in this course will take entry and exit surveys in order to assess their prior and achieved knowledge. These surveys will include: \n\nCoding knowledge and experience\nElectronics knowledge and experience\nTinkercad knowledge and experience\n\nCourse completers will receive an Arduino Starter Kit (which includes an Arduino Fundamentals certificate voucher) and will be able to apply for LAN-120 if they successfully earn the Arduino Fundamentals Certification. \nSee the agenda and syllabus here!

SUMMARY:CAE Virtual Career Fair 2020
DESCRIPTION:The Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cybersecurity Community is hosting the fourth annual CAE Virtual Career Fair (VCF)\, sponsored by the National Cybersecurity Training and Education (NCyTE) Center and the National Science Foundation (NSF)\, on September 4\, 2020\, from 9:00 am-1:00 pm PT. Our virtual career fair is unique in that we invite students/alumni from 300+ institutions designated as CAEs in Research (CAE-R)\, Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE)\, and Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) to participate. Institutions receive the CAE in Cybersecurity designation after meeting the rigorous requirements of the program set forth by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The standards set forth by the NSA/DHS curriculum guidelines also ensure students from CAE institutions receive a quality cybersecurity education that prepares them for a career in the cyber workforce. \nAs the CAE in Cybersecurity program continues to designate new CAEs\, the number of students participating in the CAE VCF grows each year. Last year\, 1200+ students/alumni participated in the CAE VCF. This year\, the community has an estimated 10\,000+ students graduating from junior colleges and universities seeking jobs in cybersecurity. In addition\, our community has an estimated 20\,000+ students that are eligible for internships in the 2020-2021 academic year. Students/alumni from CAE designated institutions are extremely valuable to any organization as they must meet the rigorous curriculum requirements set forth by the NSA/DHS to graduate. \nSurvey data from the 2019 event indicate both employers and students positively receive the CAE VCF. Many students find careers through the VCF\, and many of the same employers return each year to participate. \nFor more information and registration\, please use the Website URL in the sidebar.

They are introduced to network management tools and learn key concepts of software-defined networking\, including controller-based architectures and how application programming interfaces (APIs) enable network automation. \nThis class will cover some new topics that were not part of the previous CCNA curriculum\, so it is recommended even for those people that have prior NetAcad experience. \nPrerequisite: Concepts covered in CCNA 2 classes or prior networking experience. \n\nInstructor: Brent Sieling is an Instructor for the 2-year Network Specialist Associate Degree at Madison College. He has been teaching networking classes full-time since January of 2006 and part-time for three semesters prior to that. He is the lead contact for the Academy Support Center and Instructor Training Center at Madison College’s Cisco Networking Academy\, providing support to over 80 high schools and technical colleges in the State of Wisconsin. Brent previously worked as a network specialist at the Madison Metropolitan School District\, where he managed a network of over 50 schools. Brent currently holds the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)\, CCNA Voice\, and CCNA Security certifications\, and is the author of the Cisco Press CCNA Voice lab book.
